VVA LOTTERY POLICY

Lottery Details

Vegas Vista Academy will hold a computerized selection lottery after the Open Enrollment period to determine who will be accepted. Families will be notified via email or phone of their child’s acceptance into Vegas Vista Academy following the lottery. The Office for Civil Rights (OCR) enforces Federal statutes that prohibit discrimination in programs and activities that receive Federal financial assistance from the Department of Education. As stated in our Mission Statement, Vegas Vista Academy is committed to providing an equal opportunity education to all applicants without regard to race, religion, color, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, citizenship status, age, exceptionality or any other protected status in accordance with all applicable federal, state and local laws.

Open Enrollment Application Period: December 21, 2023 – February 4, 2024

• Vegas Vista Academy will be posting student applications for the lottery on its website (www.vegasvistaacademy.org) on December 21, 2023.
• Interested parents/guardians will apply through the portal with the following basic information: Parent/guardian name(s), student name(s), contact information, date(s) of birth, and grade level(s).
• All students who apply prior to February 5, 2024 will be entered into a lottery with the exception of preferences, unless the number of applicants is less than the number of seats available.
• The Open Enrollment Application closes on February 4, 2024 at 11:59 PM.

Vegas Vista Academy Preferences

• First priority will be given to any child(ren) of an employee of Vegas Vista Academy.
• Second priority will be given to any child(ren) of members of the Vegas Vista Academy governing body.
• Third priority will be given to the siblings of currently enrolled VVA students. Should the number of siblings exceed the numbers of available spaces in any grade level; the students will be placed in a lottery to determine priority. 

Enrollment Lottery – February 5, 2024

• The Vegas Vista Academy Selection Lottery will take place on February 5, 2024.
• If fewer students apply than there are available seats, a lottery will not be conducted.
• Students will be selected randomly through a computerized lottery program.
• Once all spots for a given grade have been filled, the lottery will be used to determine the waitlist order for the remaining students who have applied.
• Upon selection, staff will notify parents/guardians by phone or email. Parents will have 5 business days to accept their seat by completing their registration, or to decline their seat. 
• If all documents are not submitted by the stated deadline in the acceptance email, the student’s spot will be returned to the lottery at the end of the 5 day deadline. 
• If a student declines their seat, the waitlist will be utilized in the order determined by the lottery.

Waitlist – February 12, 2024

• The lottery will be used to determine the waitlist order for those students who have applied during the Open Enrollment Application period but did not receive acceptance. 
• Parents/guardians will be notified by phone or email of the student’s placement on this waitlist on February 11, 2024.
• All future grade openings will be selected from the numbered waitlist at each grade level.
• Should openings occur after the initial waitlist has been exhausted, a student can enroll on a first come, first served basis.
